I tried to email you but it didn't work! So I will put here what I had written.....
Don't let the busturds get you down
I can tell you have a good heart and a love for your fellow man. A bit lengthy at times, but worth it to dig for the gold. Thank you for being here, and for what you do on the other sites as well.

Maybe it's just me, but I am not having any trouble understanding EXACTLY what Focus is saying.
As for those calling Focus "stupid", or, "an idiot", you aren't fooling anyone. You don't believe it for a second.
His words may have stung you, they may be bitter as wormwood, you may think him mean spirited, and you may even disagree w/ him on some points. But no, believe me, no one is buying it when you act as if you think he is stupid.
I think he is kind of cuddly."

The Ravings of Trolls Distracts FOCUS From Real Watchtower Scandals
by cofty inmy thread was inspired by gentledawn's insightful comment about the effect the events in wales had on her jw husband.... hope any lurkers out there can filter out the signal (storys and experiences like this) to noise (the current trolls running amok on the forums) ratios.
this the problem with those who focus on outrageous fantasies about the watchtower.
it distracts from the real issues that need to be highlighted.. what happened in wales was for real.

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

They lay their eggs in the bodies of other living animals to provide their newly hatched grubs with a fresh supply of meat. Like HR Giger’s alien, the full-grown larvae then burst through their host’s skin, usually killing it in the process.
But the fate of one type of caterpillar Thyrinteina leucocerae doesn’t end there. It is targeted by a Glyptapanteles wasp that, on a single pass, can lay as many as 80 eggs onto the hapless host. Two weeks later, the larvae burst through their host’s skin. But despite its injuries, the caterpillar remains alive and stays near the hatched grubs as they spin their pupae and turn into adults. It never moves and it never feeds. All it does it violently swing its head in response to nearby movement. After the adult wasps fly off, it eventually dies.
Amir Grosman from the University of Amsterdam has found that the caterpillar’s strange behaviour is all part of the manipulations of the wasp. Its last act is to defend the very grubs that spent the last two weeks killing it, playing the role of bodyguard as well as incubator...
In natural conditions, the caterpillar’s vigil ensures that more wasp pupae survive. When Grosman removed these unwitting guardians, the death rate among the pupae doubled. Some were eaten and a few, in an ironic twist, became hosts themselves to other wasp grubs – a case of so-called “hyperparasitism”. watchtowers army assault on our vulnerable elderly in nursing homes
by friendaroonie inits been a long time since i have been this enraged at the evilness and shameless exploitation by the jws.
i just got back from the meeting (dont ask) and sat through the km article laying out plans to mass convert nursing homes all over the world.
i am not going to labor the obvious ethical travesty of this plan but i will say that it constitutes a major public health risk.
-

Exactly. That is why they are entering very dangerous territory to me, get the elderly on their own and brainwash them once they are isolated from the group. But nobody else seems to care. Please see the letter I wrote on page 2 if you want to act, but thanks for acknowledging my concern anyway.

@Focus.. I'm an atheist myself, as you would know if you had bothered to read even the last page of that thread. Feel free to add your thoughts to it, the theists seem to have given up.. It's incredible how many people take one look at my moniker and lump me in with believers. The question of animal suffering is what led me to atheism.

This is the instructions from the KM, minus the scriptures and the 'encouraging results' crapola at the end. I've typed it all out on a phone, I hope somebody finds this interesting..
1 Although elderly can be forgetful and immobile, we still need to reach them (approx.)
Now word for word..
....
2 Getting started: Usually a list of nursing-care facilities can be compiled by searching the local telephone directory. Check categories such as "nursing homes", "group homes" and "residential-care" facilities. The service overseer can take the lead in arranging for qualified publishers to visit each facility. With good planning and reliance on Jehovah, it is often possible to start a group Bible study.
3 The manner in which the study is introduced depends on the type of facility. In large facilities with many residents and staff members, it is best to approach the receptionist and ask to speak to the director of activities. In small group homes for seniors-homes with a few residents and two or three caregivers- it may be best to schedule a time to speak directly with the owner of the home.
4 In either situation, explain that you are volunteering your time to encourage individuals who enjoy reading and discussing Bible accounts. Ask if there are any residents who might like to participate in a group Bible discussion for about 30 minutes a week. A variety of publications can be used, but many find that My Book of Bible Stories and The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived are well received. You may wish to show the publications to the director. The day, time and meeting room location can be worked out with him or her and will typically be posted on an activities calendar in the nursing home. Do not shy away from identifying yourself as one of Jehovahs Witnesses. At the same time, help the director to understand that you would not be coming to conduct a religious service but, rather, to promote Bible education.
5 Conducting the Study: How you conduct the study depends on the circumstances and environment at the facility, so be flexible and discerning. The conductor should bring several copies of the publication being considered and should collect them at the end of the study. It may be necessary to bring enlarged copies of the material for some. Paragraphs canbe read, questions can be asked, and responses can be given in our usual manner. Those willing and capable may be invited to read the paragraphs or Bible passages. During the study, be engaging, positive and friendly. With the permission of the director, you can occasionally show one of the organisations videos that builds faith in the Bible or highlights lessons from a particular Bible account. It may be possible to open and close the study with a simple prayer. Some publishers have even introduced Kingdom songs.
6 What if a resident objects to something that is read or stated during the study? Use discernment when you reply. Perhaps you can share a brief Bible text that clearly addresses his concern. If it is not practical for you to do so, then it would be best to acknowledge his comment and offer to consider the matter with him seperately after the study.
7 On occasion a resident may ask a question or express a desire to learn more. One sister uses this approach: "That's a very good question. But since that is your personal question, let's wait until the end of our reading. Then you and I can discuss it together." It is often possible to arrange to conduct a personal Bible study with interested ones at another time and in a different setting.
.....
The rest basically says how to count time, and to be commited, friendly, remember their names, show kindness and respect to staff and family. Explain the purpose of the study to them. Reassure them of your sincere interest in their family member. Invite them to sit in and listen to the study.
The bullet points at the end say:
.Check in with the receptionist and director of activities when you arrive for the session.
.Bring enough copies of the publication for the group. Collect them following the study.
.Be relaxed, friendly and outgoing. Remember the residents names.
.Read and discuss one paragraph at a time.
.Use short questions. Warmly commend all for their comments.
.Defer doctrinal or controversial questions to a time and setting where they can be considered privately with the inquirer.
.Answer questions from family and staff in a simple and direct manner.
.Take advantage of opportunities to start Bible studies with residents, relatives, and staff. -

Protect the elderly
by defender of truth inthis weeks km is telling elders to arrange for group studies with people in local nursing homes, with instructions on how to word things when speaking to the directors etc.. they are clearly trying to get to people who may not be entirely able to think for themselves or who may lack critical thinking and yet may have money to leave to them.. what can you do?.
well, if you wanted to, write a short and simple letter or email to your local care home, perhaps directly even speak to the director yourself... warn them about the brainwashing and danger of breaking up of families etc.
the km says they should identify themselves as jw's... .

Band on the Run, here is some evidence for you (pictures too). Do a little research in future before casting doubt on a story's validity.
"For the first time in her life, the teenager met people who not only cared for her, but noticed the horrific bruises and strangulation marks she was unable to hide under thick clothes.
Spry came under question from the group, but blamed the injuries on an older step child, telling Victoria to do the same.
But eventually the lies became too much, and the teenager broke down, telling everything to a young couple in the group who smuggled her out the house just before Christmas 2004.
It took three weeks to build up the courage to tell the police, but brave Victoria eventually outlined the darkest details of the years of abuse.
“I was there the longest, I was there from when I was a little baby,” she said. “She was all I knew, and like the others, despite it all, I still felt loyal to her.” Spry – who to his day still denies any abuse – was arrested. Investigating officers scoured her two properties and recovered the bloody and splintered sticks she had shoved down her children’s throats, as well as teeth knocked out in the process.
Amongst the squaller in the homes they found unposted letters Victoria had written – but forgotten about – begging neighbours to ‘please be my new mummy’.
She was found guilty of 26 charges, including unlawful wounding, cruelty to a person under 16, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, perverting the course of justice and witness intimidation.
Judge Simon Darwall-Smith, at Bristol Crown Court, told Spry that this was the worst case he had come across in 40 years in law."

"She brought up another question about animals and if Jehovah and Jesus really cares about animals then why do animals kill each other. This seems to contradict what Jesus told his disciples about Jehovah caring for a sparrow when it falls. I watch the nature channel and I literally start getting teary-eyed watching the lions and tigers shred a deer in a matter of minutes. I just have to wonder does Jehovah really care about those animals getting torn to pieces?"
Excellent question. For a 20-page discussion of that, please read this thread from start to finish:
